South-eastern Europe and the EU - Leadership Development Programme
A New initiative by the College of Europe and the TRANSFUSE Association
July 2006 – April 2007

The future of Southeastern Europe depends on targeted and consistent action to develop effective civic structures and integrate the region into Euro-Atlantic political, economic and security spheres. This requires consultation and collaboration between international and regional policy-makers. Initiatives which build confidence among citizens in the region are a prerequisite for peace and stability, and ultimately for regional integration and economic prosperity. Underlying the project is the belief that the driving force for the continuation of the political, social and economic reform and transition process are qualified young professionals with international experience.

In an effort to extend their activities, the TRANSFUSE Association and the College of Europe have agreed to initiate a programme for young people from the countries of Southeastern Europe as well as broader Europe and the United States who can be expected to play a significant role in the future of their countries. The programme aims to transmit knowledge about the EU and its relation to the region and to stimulate the skills of a group of young professionals, who have the ambition to play an active role in a common project for future.

The programme consists of a cycle of activities over a one year period:

The Programme will be led by an Academic Dean, Lord Roper, who will guide the participants through the different elements of the programme. The working language of the programme is English.

Certificates will be awarded upon the successful completion of the programme.

Only 30 applicants will be invited to participate. The cost of the participation in the programme for the successful candidates including travel costs, accommodation, lodging and visas will be covered. The application procedure is specified below (see “How to apply”).
